Xiaomi’s flagship MIX 5 series, which includes the Xiaomi MIX 5 and MIX 5 Pro, is said to be in the works. More information indicates that the MIX 5 Pro, the series’ big brother, will receive the Surge C2 ISP, which will significantly improve the device’s photography capabilities. The MIX Fold builds on the success of the Surge C1 image processing processor, which was announced last year. The chip’s highlights include the ability to perform Auto AWB, Auto AE, and Auto AF.
With the Surge C2 ISP, things will step up a notch, and the camera capabilities will be more assertive, though no details on the chip’s specific features have been released. According to Xiaomiui, the “MIPISEL” function was discovered in the Mi code of the aforementioned device – the MIX 5 Pro – which has the model number L1 shortened.
The Surge C1 ISP is expected to arrive on the MIX 5, implying that the multi-functional telephoto camera with liquid-lens technology will improve low-light shooting for the smaller sibling. It will, however, have the same 48MP front-facing camera as the MIX 5 Pro.
The main difference is the rear camera module setup, which will include a 50MP primary lens with OIS (81926144 pixels resolution) and a 48MP secondary lens with 2x optical zoom. The MIX 5 Pro, on the other hand, features a 50 MP primary shooter with OIS (8192 x 6144 pixels resolution), a 48MP ultrawide lens, and an OIS-enabled 48MP shooter with 5x zoom.

Given the resolutions on these phones, Sony MX766 and IMX707 sensors are likely to be used on the MIX 5 series. The series is expected to launch in the spring, and some leaks suggest Xiaomi may forego the Xiaomi 12 Ultra in favour of focusing solely on the MIX series. Some even speculate that the MIX 5 will be released in Q2 of 2022, and that the MIX 5 series will only be available in China.
