Hindi is one of the widely spoken languages ​​of India and a day is dedicated to honor it which is called ‘Hindi Divas’. This special day is celebrated on 14 September to commemorate the adoption of Hindi in Devanagari script as one of the official languages ​​in many Hindi speaking states of India.

What is World Hindi Day?

World Hindi Day or World Hindi Day is celebrated every year on 10 January, to mark the anniversary of the first World Hindi Conference held in 1975. The first World Hindi Conference was inaugurated by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Many countries such as Mauritius, United Kingdom, Trinidad and Tobago, United States of America have organized World Hindi Conference since 1975.

World Hindi Day was celebrated for the first time on 10 January 2006 through former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. And since the special day is celebrated on the same date to promote it as a global language.

How is National Hindi Day different from World Hindi Day?

Hindi is one of the most widely spoken languages ​​of the world after English and Mandarin. In terms of linguistic diversity, Hindi is the fourth most spoken language in the world, after English, Mandarin and Spanish. Hindi is also a direct descendant of an early form of Vedic Sanskrit.

Hindi Divas is celebrated every year on 14 September, which declares Hindi as the official language. Meanwhile, World Hindi Conference or World Hindi Conference is celebrated on 10 January which is a word conference on Hindi language.

History and Significance of Hindi Diwas

Through the efforts of Beohar Rajendra Simha along with Hazari Prasad Dwivedi, Kaka Kalelkar, Maithili Sharan Gupta and Seth Govind Das, Hindi was adopted as one of the two official languages ​​of the Republic of India through the Constituent Assembly of India.

Beohar Rajendra Simha’s 50th birthday was on 14 September 1949 as Hindi was adopted as the official language due to his efforts. Hence this day was declared as Hindi Diwas. This decision was later amended through the Constitution of India on 26 January 1950. Hindi written in Devanagari script was adopted as one of the official languages ​​under Article 343 of the Indian Constitution.

Difference between World Hindi Day and National Hindi Day

World Hindi Day is celebrated across the world on 10 September. Its aim is to spread the word of Hindi on the global level. At the same time, only a few months after this, National Hindi Day is celebrated. People often get confused about World Hindi Day and National Hindi Day and because of not knowing the difference between them, they take it as one and the same. But let us tell you that National Hindi Day is celebrated on the day when the Constituent Assembly declared Hindi as the official language of India. Whereas the aim of World Hindi Day is to promote Hindi at the global level.
