Toyota Raize, Raize Space Trademarked In India

Toyota currently does not have a presence in sub-4-meter SUV segment, which presents the possibility of Raize being launched as a rebadged version of Brezza

Toyota has registered two new trademarks in India. These are Raize and Raize Space. It is likely to be used for the rebadged version of Maruti Brezza. Or it could be used for Toyota’s version of Maruti Fronx. Another potential name for rebadged versions of Brezza and Fronx is Toyota Taisor. It was registered by Toyota last year in October.

In international markets, Toyota Raize is a compact SUV, measuring around 4 meters in length. Raize seems a catchier name, as compared to Urban Cruiser. It can help Toyota in making a successful re-entry into the fast-growing sub-compact SUV space. It is possible that Toyota is planning to launch both 5 and 7 seater versions under the Raize branding, which could be the reason behind registering the name Raize Space as well.

Scope for Toyota Raize (rebadged Brezza)

Toyota earlier had Urban Cruiser as the rebadged version of Maruti Brezza. While the response was good in terms of sales, for unknown reasons Toyota decided to discontinue the sub 4m SUV from the Indian market. However, as the segment holds significant potential for growth, Toyota may have plans to give it another try.

As Toyota has handed over the Urban Cruiser branding now to their new compact SUV HyRyder, their sub 4m SUV could come in with an all new name. So, with a new name and updated design and features, Toyota Raize could be successful in getting the customer’s attention.

When launched, Toyota Raize will rival the likes of Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, Hyundai Venue and Kia Sonet. As compared to Maruti Brezza, Toyota Raize will have a distinctive exterior profile. Much of the changes will be centred around the front fascia. For example, Raize will have a new grille design. Side profile can be updated with a new set of alloy wheels. Interiors will be largely the same as Brezza, although colour theme is likely to be different.

Toyota Raize (rebadged Brezza) powertrain

Toyota Raize will be borrowing the K15C, 1.5-litre petrol motor from Brezza. It generates 100.6 PS of max power and 136 Nm of peak torque. Transmission choices include 5-speed manual and 6-speed automatic. Power and torque output is slightly higher with the smart hybrid variants of Brezza.

CNG option is available for Brezza, which can be introduced with Toyota Raize as well. When running on CNG, the SUV churns out 87.8 PS and 121.5 Nm. Toyota Raize CNG will be offered with only 5-speed manual transmission.

Much of the equipment list onboard Toyota Raize will also be borrowed from Maruti Brezza. Some key highlights include dual LED projector headlamps with LED DRLs, chrome accentuated front grille, precision cut alloy wheels and rear combination tail lamps. Inside, features include a 9-inch touchscreen, sunroof, wireless charging, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, MID with TFT colour display, leather wrapped steering wheel and ambient lighting.
