To Remove Rohit Sharma As Vice-Captain, Virat Kohli Proposed To The Selection Committee

Virat Kohli, who recently declared that he will step down as India’s T20I captain after the T20 World Cup 2021, reportedly urged to the BCCI selection committee that Rohit Sharma be replaced as vice-captain of India’s white-ball teams.
If Virat fails to win the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2021, which begins on October 17 in the UAE and Oman and concludes on November 14, it was earlier stated that Kohli, 32, would be dismissed from captaincy and Rohit Sharma would take over in ODIs and T20Is.

Despite stating that he will step down as captain of the T20I team after the ICC tournament, Kohli has stated that he will continue to captain the other two formats. However, according to new allegations from PTI, his ODI captaincy is in jeopardy, especially following his claimed proposals.

After suggesting that Rohit Sharma be removed from the vice-captaincy, the board believes Virat Kohli didn’t want an actual successor.

While Virat Kohli cited workload management as a reason for stepping down as India’s T20I captain, insiders suggest that apart from the World Cup, India’s calendar till 2023 only has roughly 20 bilateral T20 games in which Kohli will not be captain.

“Virat was well aware that he would lose his white ball captaincy. If the squad does not perform well at the UAE World T20, he will be out of white ball leadership for good. He just took off a little bit of burden on himself because he appears to be there on his own terms. If T20 performance deteriorates, it may not happen for 50 overs,” a BCCI insider with knowledge of the situation told PTI.

Kohli is reportedly believed to have presented the selection committee with a surprising proposition. Since vice-captain Rohit Sharma is 34 years old, the Delhi batsman believes he should be removed from his position and someone younger should take over in both formats. He wanted KL Rahul to take over as ODI vice-captain, with Rishabh Pant taking over in T20Is.
