The accident happened late Monday evening on National Highway-30 in Sukma town, about 400 kilometres from Raipur, according to Superintendent of Police Sunil Sharma.

According to the official, the officers were returning to Police Lines after purchasing some medications when their two-wheeler collided with a speeding car coming from the opposite direction.

Sub-inspector Athnasiyus Minj (61) died on the spot, while head constable Raghunath Markam (52) died in a Jagdalpur hospital, and his colleague Somnath Markam (32) died from his injuries while being referred to Raipur for treatment, he said.

According to Sharma, a case has been filed against car driver Ghurau Ram Rana (42), who was arrested in Rokel village in Sukma’s Chhindgarh area.
