The Apple iPad has largely dominated the tablet market, and for good reason. The number of Android tablet releases has been sparse, with Samsung and, to a lesser extent, Lenovo dominating the market. More hardware companies have recently expressed interest, with Xiaomi announcing the Xiaomi Pad 5 series in 2021. Now, the Xiaomi Pad 5 (along with the Xiaomi 12 Pro and the Mi TV 5A) will be available in India, giving consumers more tablet options.
Launch of Xiaomi Pad 5 in India
The Xiaomi Pad 5 has a 16:10 aspect ratio, which may surprise you if you were expecting a 3:2 aspect ratio like the iPad, but neither choice is inherently flawed. A wider aspect ratio would be better for watching movies, while the other end would be better for doing work. There isn’t a fingerprint scanner on the tablet, which is surprising. With MIUI 12.5, you also get Android 11. Apart from that, you get a well-rounded package with the Snapdragon 860 in charge of processing. Although we found the Xiaomi Pad 5 to be a good tablet option in our review, there are still arguments to be made for using an Android tablet in the first place. This is a good option if you want a large-screen entertainment and productivity device.
Xiaomi will also be selling the Xiaomi Smart Pen Stylus and Keyboard Case separately in India.
Availability and Pricing
The Xiaomi Pad 5 will be available in India in only one colour: black, with two storage options: 128GB and 256GB, both with 6GB of RAM.
- 6GB + 128GB: ₹26,999
- 6GB + 256GB: ₹28,999
The device will be available in India on May 3 at 12 p.m. through Amazon India, Mi.com, and offline retailers. Until May 7, the tablet will be available at a special introductory price of 24,999 and 26,999 dollars. Xiaomi is also giving HDFC Bank cardholders an extra 2,000 rupees off. The Smart Pen Stylus and Keyboard Case do not yet have pricing or availability information, but they will be available for purchase separately at a later date.
