Toyota is considering building a performance version of its first electric vehicle, the Toyota bZ4X, but will not confirm anything until it is “confident.” According to a report, Toyota’s GR Sport division is considering developing a production version of the bZ4X GR Sport model. “We are talking with the GR guys,” Daisuke Ido, the chief engineer of the Toyota bZ4X EV, said in a report, “but it’s still not a concrete idea yet.””

When it comes to the performance variant of the EV, Ido explained that the company’s biggest challenge is matching the performance of other models in Toyota’s GR lineup, rather than increasing the vehicle’s power or torque. “We can control any profile with a battery EV, so the feeling is very important, and we have to work out how to offer a higher power with the same mechanism,” Ido was quoted as saying in order to make the idea of building a performance variant of the bZ4X EV a reality. That is the problem.”
