The Road Testing of The Force Gurkha’s Five-Door Vehicle Continues

The five-door Gurkha is expected to go on sale later this year, with a variety of variants and seating options.

The Force Gurkha five-door has been spotted testing once more, though this time it’s on a more rugged set of wheels rather than the standard steel rims. This suggests that the upcoming SUV will be available in a variety of configurations, including a tough 4×4 option.

  • Five-door Gurkha could be sold in both 4×4 and 4×2 variants
  • Two seating configurations expected
  • Will most likely carry forward 2.6-litre diesel

Previous test mules of the five-door Gurkha have all been seen with steel wheels and regular road tyres, but this new one has much beefier tyres that even extend out past the wheel arches.

For the five-door Gurkha, Force Motors could be considering multiple variants, including separate 4×4 and 4×2 options. The test mule shown here could be the 4×4 variant.

Meanwhile, a 4×2 version will allow Force Motors to price the five-door Gurkha more aggressively, resulting in increased sales from customers who do not want to take the SUV off-road. For years, the Mahindra Scorpio has followed a similar strategy, with the 4×2 variants accounting for the majority of the Scorpio’s sales.

As seen in spy photos, the five-door Gurkha will have front-end styling similar to the larger Trax and may not have the round-headlight look of its three-door sibling.

Of course, the five-door Gurkha will be based on a stretched version of the C in C platform used by the Gurkha. It’ll have a wheelbase of around 2.8m, which means it’ll be about 400mm longer than a standard Gurkha. It will also come with a variety of seating options, including 6- and 7-seat layouts as well as captain’s chairs in some models.

In India, The Force Gurkha Five-Door is Expected to Face Competition

In its league of hardcore, ladder-frame off-roaders, the five-door Force Gurkha will not be alone. In a similar vein, Mahindra is working on a five-door version of the Thar, which should be available in a few years. Similarly, Maruti Suzuki has been working on a five-door version of the Jimny for the Indian market, which is expected to debut next year. The new five-door Gurkha will continue to compete with the current-generation Scorpio (2WD only), which is expected to sell well after the new one arrives in showrooms.
