The Mercedes-AMG G 63 4X4 Squared has been Revealed

The Mercedes-Benz G 63 AMG 4X4 Squared will remain one of the most capable off-roaders ever created.

For a second generation, Mercedes-Benz has brought back the high-riding G-Class 4×4 Squared. The previous version was available in a more standard G 500 configuration (badged G 550 in North America), but the new one will be available in the hotter AMG G 63 configuration. The new G 63 4X4 Squared, like its predecessor, features massive ground clearance and portal axles at all four corners, as well as other off-road enhancements.

One of The Most Capable Off-Roaders is The Mercedes-AMG G 63 4X4 Squared

In comparison to the previous-generation model, the new portal-axle equipped AMG G 63 4X4 will be less capable off-road. It was created to be more comfortable and usable on the road, as well as to be more similar to the standard G 63.

The G63 4X4 Squared has a 45-degree approach angle and a ground clearance of 350.5mm, compared to 51.8 degrees and 410mm for the previous-generation G-Class 4X4 Squared. Mercedes claims that the new SUV’s water fording depth is around 909mm, which is nearly 100mm less than the outgoing model’s 1,000mm.

While these off-road numbers may put the new SUV behind its predecessor, it will still be one of the most capable off-roaders on the market.

The suspension comes next. Instead of the solid front axle layout seen on the previous-generation G-Class 4X4 Squared, the new G 63 4X4 Squared gets the standard SUV’s independent front suspension. The new SUV’s monster-truck looks are enhanced by the 22-inch alloy wheels. It also gets carbon fiber wheel arch extensions and wider fenders.

Powertrain and Features of The Mercedes-AMG G 63 4X4 Squared

The G 63 4X4 Squared is powered by an AMG 4.0-litre twin turbo V8 engine that produces 585 horsepower. This is a 163hp increase over the previous G 500 4X4 Squared. The new SUV is expected to have lockable differentials and other off-road features, as well as full-time four-wheel drive.

Meanwhile, the roof’s carbon fibre-framed LED light bar, as well as the carbon fibre-finished spare tyre carrier, will add to the car’s luxurious yet rugged appearance. Another new feature on this SUV is the digital rear view mirror, which can be adjusted to compensate for the large spare tire and higher ride height.

The SUV will come standard with a plethora of luxury features, including Nappa leather and ambient lighting. On this SUV, Mercedes-AMG will also offer a wood finish on the cargo area floor.

The G Wagen also had raised versions of the G 63 6×6 and the Maybach G 650 Landaulet, in addition to the previous G-Class 4X4 Squared. The upcoming Land Rover Defender SVX will be a strong competitor to the all-new AMG G 63 4X4 Squared.
