Hero Electric’s Optima HX is now India’s most cheap two-wheeler with cruise control.
Modern automobiles are replete with features, and electric mobility has made luxury features even more accessible to the general public. Cruise control was a relatively new creature comfort until a few years ago, and it was only offered in a few high-end vehicles.
This characteristic, however, now appears to have spread to two-wheelers as well. Ola Electric recently announced that its first electric scooter, the S1 Pro, would include cruise control. Customers who have begun receiving deliveries of their Ola e-scooters, however, have yet to receive this benefit.
Cruise Control on Hero’s Electric Scooter
In the meantime, Hero Electric’s Optima HX e-scooter now comes with cruise control as a standard feature. Optima HX is an enhanced successor for the regular Optima e-scooter, with prices starting at Rs 55,850 (ex-showroom, including FAME II subsidy).
The electric scooter is now available in two versions: single battery and dual battery, in its renamed form. Rs 65,640 is the cost of the latter (ex-showroom). From January 5, 2022, reservations for the Optima HX are expected to open.
Other Features Including Cruise Control
Except for the addition of cruise control, the Optima HX is nearly identical to its predecessor. When it comes to cruise control, passengers can use a separate button to turn it on. The new electric scooter’s instrument console will display a ‘cruise’ indication once it is activated.
Riders can either hit the brakes or twist the throttle to turn off cruise control. In addition to cruise control and a digital instrument display, the Optima HX has amenities including remote locking, keyless ignition, anti-theft alarm, USB charging port, and regenerative braking. An LED headlight is included in the dual-battery version. Bluetooth and GPS connectivity, for example, are likely to be available as options.
Specs on the Engine
A 1.2 kW (1.6 horsepower) electric motor powers both Optima HX models, which have a top speed of 42 kmph. The single battery model has a replaceable 51.2V, 30Ah lithium-ion battery pack with an 82km range on a single charge. The twin battery model has a second battery pack with a range of 122 kilometres.
There have been no changes to the electric scooter’s hardware configurations. While cruise control is an important function at this price, it does feel a touch gimmicky in this situation. Cruise control will make little impact to the operation of a scooter with a top speed of 42 kmph.
