Desert X was first shown as a concept bike at the Ducati World Premiere 2020 in 2019. It has a design inspired by the Cagiva Elefant 900ie from the Dakar rally in the early 1990s. The new motorcycle will be built on the same chassis as the Scrambler 1100.

Ducati’s concept bike received a positive response from enthusiasts, prompting the company to continue working on it. It’s unclear whether Ducati will release a production model with the same chassis as the concept or a completely different chassis.

The original concept model was powered by a 1,079 cc Desmodromic L-Twin engine with twin valves and air cooling that produced 86 horsepower at 7,500 rpm and 88 Nm of torque at 4,750 rpm. The Ducati Desert X may be overshadowed in the hyper-competitive ADV segment with these figures. As a result, the Italian manufacturer gave the motorcycle a new engine.

The Multistrada 950 will be equipped with a 937 cc Testastretta L-twin water-cooled engine that produces 113 hp at 9,000 rpm and 96.3 Nm of torque at 7,750 rpm. Despite its smaller displacement, this engine can produce the necessary power and torque for an ADV vehicle.

Unlike other Multistradas, which have 19-inch front wheels, the Ducati Desert X is expected to have a 21-inch front wheel. It’s possible that it’ll get an 18-inch rear wheel. Off-road spec tyres will be fitted to the multi-spoke wheels. Dual disc brakes are likely on the front wheels, with a single disc brake on the back.

The styling of the Ducati Desert X is likely to be very similar to that of the concept. Twin circular LED headlamps with integrated LED daytime running lights are expected, as well as a raked high-seating wide handlebar. A digital instrument cluster, a chunky and muscular fuel tank, a low-slung rider seat, a thick protective shield for the engine block, and an upward running exhaust are among the other design elements and features.

This motorcycle will compete with rivals such as the KTM 890 Adventure R and the Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro when it is released.
