The Choreographer Ganesh Acharya was Granted Bail in a Sexual Harassment Case

In a sexual harassment case, a Mumbai magistrate’s court on Thursday granted bail to choreographer Ganesh Acharya.

On Thursday, after Acharya made an appearance in court, the relief was granted.

According to the municipal police, a First Information Report (FIR) was filed against the Bollywood choreographer in February 2020 for allegedly harassing a woman sexually.

The woman was allegedly beaten on January 26 and two other women, Jayashree Kelkar and Preeti Lad, were identified in the FIR that was filed at the Amboli police station.

Ganesh Acharya, a choreographer, was granted bail on Thursday in a sexual harassment case by a magistrate’s court in Mumbai. In February 2020, a police report was filed against the choreographer at the Amboli police station in the suburbs for allegedly assaulting an assistant choreographer.

When the complainant visited Ganesh Acharya at his office in 2009–2010, she claimed that he had her watch pornographic videos and claimed that he had done the same to other women. Ganesh was accused of voyeurism and sexual harassment by the Mumbai Police in April of this year, among other things.

In the investigation, Ganesh Acharya has never been detained. Following his Thursday appearance before the magistrate’s court, he was given bail. He and two other people are accused of assaulting the complainant on January 26, 2020, at Andheri while she was attending a gathering of the Indian Film and Television Choreographers Association. She also included concerns about prior instances of sexual harassment.

In response to the complaint, the police opened an investigation into Ganesh Acharya under the IPC sections 354-A (sexual harassment), 354-C (watching or photographing a woman performing a private act), 354-D (stalking), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 509 (word, gesture, or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman). All of the claims have been refuted by the choreographer.

In the early 1990s, choreographer Kamalji hired 51-year-old Ganesh Acharya as his assistant. He participated in his debut film Anaam in 1992, but it wasn’t until 2001 that his work on the song Badi Mushkil from Lajja brought him global popularity and acclaim. He made his directing debut in 2007 with Swami, a film starring Manoj Bajpai and Juhi Chawla. He has also appeared in a number of movies, most notably playing the bad guy in Rowthiram (2012).
