What’s The Difference Between a Tata Tiago CNG and a Tigor CNG?

Tata’s 1.2-litre three-cylinder Revotron petrol engine powers both the Tiago CNG and Tigor CNG under the hood. This engine produces 86hp and 113Nm of peak torque in petrol form, but only 73hp and 95Nm of peak torque in CNG form. That means the petrol and CNG versions of the Tiago and Tigor have a 13hp and 18Nm difference, respectively. Moreover, despite its heavier weight (around 100kg), the Tiago has a 168mm ground clearance, compared to 165mm for the Tigor.

Only a 5-speed manual transmission is available on both models. Notably, the Tiago and Tigor CNG can be started in CNG mode right away, a feature that none of its competitors offer. Both the Tiago and Tigor CNG models have an ARAI-claimed fuel economy of 26.49km/kg. The recently launched Maruti Celerio CNG, for example, has a fuel economy of 35.60km/kg.

Trims and Features for The Tata Tiago CNG and Tigor CNG

There are no design differences between the CNG-powered Tiago and Tigor and the regular petrol-powered Tiago and Tigor. The only exterior change is a new ‘i-CNG’ badge on both models’ tailgates. Similarly, the interiors of the Tiago CNG and Tigor CNG haven’t changed significantly. However, boot space has been severely reduced. The Tiago’s boot space has been reduced from 242 to 80 litres, while the Tigor’s boot space has been reduced from 419 to 205 litres.

The Tiago CNG is available in four trims – XE, XM, XT, and XZ+ – as shown in the price table above, while the Tigor CNG is available in two trims – XZ and XZ+. The Tiago CNG is available on all trim levels from base to second-from-top, whereas the Tigor CNG is only available on top-spec trims.

The standard car’s equipment list has been carried over to the CNG trims, which includes 14-inch wheels, projector headlamps with LED DRLS, 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, eight-speaker Harman audio system, automatic climate control, electrically adjustable and foldable wing mirrors, and more. Rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlamps, and a dual-tone roof are all standard on the Tigor CNG.

Dual airbags, anti-lock brakes, a rear parking camera and sensors, and corner stability control are all standard safety features. The Tiago CNG and Tigor CNG, in particular, are the only Global NCAP 4-star rated CNG cars currently available in the country.

Rivals: Tata Tiago CNG and Tigor CNG

As previously stated, Maruti and Hyundai have dominated the CNG market thus far, with the former having the broadest range of CNG vehicles, ranging from the Alto to the Ertiga MPV. Hyundai Santro CNG, Maruti Wagon R CNG, and the newly launched Celerio CNG will all compete against the Tata Tiago CNG.

In the meantime, the Tigor CNG will compete with the Hyundai Aura CNG. Maruti Suzuki is also rumoured to be working on new CNG Swift and Dzire variants, which could add to the competition against the CNG Tiago and Tigor.

Trims for The Tata Tiago and Tigor XZ+ have been Updated

On both the Tiago and Tigor, Tata Motors has updated the top-spec XZ+ trim. The Tiago XZ+ now comes in an exclusive Midnight Plum colour scheme, as well as a dual-tone black and beige interior. The interior theme of the rest of the range remains the same as before: black and grey.

Meanwhile, the Tigor XZ+ gets a new Magnetic Red colour option, which can be combined with a black roof to create a dual-tone exterior theme. Furthermore, instead of the dual-tone finish seen on the Tiago, the Tigor XZ+’s 15-inch alloys are now finished in Sonic Silver. Rain-sensing wipers and automatic headlamps are now standard on the 2022 Tigor XZ+ trim level. New seat fabric and a dual-tone black and beige interior theme are among the other interior changes on the Tigor XZ+.
