Some are upset over the government’s decision to raise the marriage limit for women to 21 years:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hit out at his opponents on Tuesday, saying that while women are glad with the government’s decision to raise the marriage age to 21, it has caused some suffering. He also claimed that 25 lakh of the 30 lakh residences built under the Prime Minister’s Awas Yojana are registered in the names of women in Uttar Pradesh, speaking at a rally in Prayagraj.

This demonstrates the government’s dedication to “sacha (genuine) women’s empowerment,” according to Modi. “We’re attempting to raise the age of marriage for women to 21 years so that they can study and advance.” This is a decision that the country is making for its daughters. “Everyone is looking to see who is having issues with this…it has caused some grief,” he said.

Some members of the Samajwadi Party (SP) have recently made negative remarks about the subject. “Five years ago, the mafia controlled the roost on the roadways of Uttar Pradesh,” the prime minister added, in an apparent jab at the SP’s rule in the state. Our sisters and daughters bore the brunt of the pain.”

The BJP government in Uttar Pradesh succeeded the SP government, which was in office from 2012 to 2017.

“In Uttar Pradesh now there is security, rights, and opportunity,” the prime minister remarked, hailing the Adityanath government (for women). With the blessings of our mothers and sisters, I am convinced that no one will ever push the state back into darkness. Come, let us swear that Uttar Pradesh shall progress from this holy region of Prayagraj.” Modi was speaking after taking part in a programme in which he transferred Rs 1,000 crore to self-help groups’ bank accounts, benefiting around 16 lakh women.
