By citing the example of stumping skills, R Ashwin has revealed his thoughts on who among MS Dhoni, Wriddhiman Saha, and Dinesh Karthik is a better wicketkeeper
Ravichandran Ashwin, an Indian cricketer, has expressed his opinion on who among India’s legendary skipper MS Dhoni, Test wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha, and former wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik is a better wicket-keeper. Ashwin made his international debut for India while also representing Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) under MS Dhoni’s captaincy. Since Dhoni’s retirement, he has been playing for India in Tests with Wriddhiman Saha behind the stumps. He has also spent time with Dinesh Karthik’s Tamil Nadu team.
Meanwhile, R Ashwin responded to a fan’s query about the three Indian wicketkeepers by saying, “Dhoni, Saha, and DK – in that order, you can take the answer.” It’s difficult to tell them apart behind the stumps. Dinesh and I have played a lot of cricket together in Tamil Nadu. But if I had to choose one, it would be. Just the man behind the stumps (MS Dhoni) has made some really tough dismissals look easy.” Dhoni’s brilliance behind the stumps was highlighted by Ashwin during a Test match in Chennai, when Dhoni stumped Ed Cowan with ease against a ball that didn’t turn but bounced significantly.
MS Dhoni’s attempt to fire Ed Cowan
“There’s this one dismissal of Ed Cowan in Chennai on Day 1 where he steps out and gets stumped,” Ashwin continued. The ball didn’t turn, but it bounced and was collected by MS Dhoni. I’ve never seen him miss a catch, be it a stumping or a run-out. He’s one of the best spin keepers in the world. “Saha isn’t far behind.” In the video, titled 40 Shades of Ash, Ashwin answers a variety of intriguing questions.
