Samrat Prithviraj 5th day box office: Zero occupancy, another Akshay Kumar flop

Samrat Prithviraj, the high-budget historical epic starring Akshay Kumar, is not performing very well at the box office. On Monday, the picture performed poorly at the box office, and early estimates for Tuesday indicate that the trend will continue. However, not everyone is ready to give up on it just yet.

According to a report from Bollywood Hungama, Samrat Prithviraj’s morning shows have been canceled due to low viewership. Those series that have not been canceled receive merely single-digit viewership.

Samrat Prithviraj, directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi, debuted with Rs 10.70 crore on Friday and rose to Rs 12.60 crore on Saturday. On Sunday, the picture earned Rs. 16.10 crore, bringing the weekend total to Rs. 39.40 crore, which paled in comparison to the Rs. 55 crore that Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 earned in its opening weekend last month. Ironically, Akshay Kumar featured in the original Bhool Bhulaiyaa, but he did not reprise his role in the sequel, which was produced for significantly less money than Samrat Prithviraj.

According to sources cited by Bollywood Hungama, the film failed to attract audiences in Mumbai, but nobody expected matinees to be canceled due to nil ticket sales. On Tuesday, Samrat Prithviraj is anticipated to have earned between Rs 4 and Rs 4.25 crore. The film is performing marginally better in Delhi and Hindi markets, according to a second source, but a decline was predicted during the weekdays due to its enormous rollout on roughly 5,000 screens worldwide.

The film, which reportedly cost Rs 200 crore to produce, must recover its investment. This appears to be Akshay’s second consecutive box office flop, following Bachchhan Paandey, which was released after The Kashmir Files’ blockbuster run. However, the fact that it has nearly three weeks before Jugjugg Jeeyo hits theaters works in its favor.

Sonu Sood told Hindustan Times, in regards to Samrat Prithviraj’s below-par performance, “I am really grateful to the public for showering us with their love. It may not have received as much business as anticipated, but we must understand that things have changed since the outbreak. Having said that, I’d say I’m quite pleased with it and the love people have showed for it.”
