Ram Charan says never expected RRR ‘to be no 1 worldwide’: ‘That was mind-blowing even for SS Rajamouli’

On Sunday, actor Ram Charan’s RRR surpassed the 900 crore mark globally. Ram discussed RRR’s box office success in an interview.

Actor Ram Charan, who is currently basking in the success of his latest release RRR, has stated that he expected the film to be a hit but never imagined it would debut as the global box office’s No. 1 film on its opening weekend. He spoke candidly about RRR’s success in an interview, as well as about his experience working with his father Chiranjeevi in Acharya.

RRR is a fictionalised account of the lives of renowned freedom fighters Komaram Bheem and Alluri Seetharama Raju, who are portrayed by Jr NTR and Ram Charan, respectively. The film is set in India prior to independence. Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt, Shriya Saran, Samuthirakani, Olivia Morris, Alison Doody, and Ray Stevenson also star in the film.

In an interview with Variety, Ram Charan discussed the success of RRR and his collaboration with his father. In response to the film’s opening weekend to the No. 1 spot at the global box office, he stated, “I expected it to be a big hit, but the No. 1 spot I never expected – that was a beautiful surprise.” That was mind-blowing for us, and I believe even for Rajamouli.”

RRR crossed the 900 crore mark globally on Sunday, the tenth day of its release, becoming only the fifth Indian film to do so.

When asked about collaborating with Jr NTR, he stated that working with his “buddy Tarak and achieving the scale of success under the direction of our best director in India” is the best any actor could hope for. He added that he and Jr NTR had a “so-called rivalry” but were friends prior to RRR.

In response to a question about his experience working with Chiranjeevi in Acharya, he stated that he learned a great deal from him. “It’s a dream come true; I’ve gained a great deal of knowledge.” I don’t believe I entered Acharya as a co-star; I entered as a student, and I’ve learned a great deal from him. The best part is that he never held my hand during any of the shooting days. He allowed me to be myself and to make mistakes. He permitted me to retake the shot. However, he never had a problem and never lost his temper, which I am extremely grateful for,” he added.
