According to a new study, daily prune consumption can prevent bone loss at the hip and protect postmenopausal women from higher fracture risk. The findings of a study led by Penn State University were published in the journal ‘The Advances in Nutrition.’

The study was the first to show that prune eating has a positive effect on bone mineral deposit (BMD) at the hip, pointing to prunes as a food-based therapy alternative for bone health.

After menopause, bone mineral density (BMD) drops fast, and women over 50 are more prone to suffer hip fractures, which can result in hospitalisation, poor quality of life, loss of independence, and a shorter life expectancy.
