PDP and Anantnag Administrator clash as, 10 Party Workers are charged with ‘Violating’ Covid Norms

After preventing PDP supporters from convening for a memorial service for late patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, the Anantnag administration took action.
The People’s Democratic Party and the district’s top civil administrator are involved in a bitter feud that began on Friday when the party’s members were barred from attending a memorial service for late patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.

On Saturday, the district administration requested that police arrest ten PDP leaders, including a former minister, for violating Covid-19 protocols. The PDP retaliated against Anantnag district magistrate Dr Piyush Singhla by releasing a video showing a man who appears to be Dr Singhla “dancing without a mask.

The footage was presumably shot in the Pahalgam resort on New Year’s Eve. A sizable crowd is said to have gathered for the celebration, with many people seeing sans masks

The PDP’s official handle posted the video in an attempt to corner Dr. Singla on Covid safeguards. “Here’s DC Anantnag dancing without a mask on New Year’s Eve in front of thousands, but when it comes to PDP, COVID-19 reappears and gets political,” the party tweeted.
An executive magistrate in Anantnag had ordered police to book 10 PDP leaders, including former minister Abdul Rehman Veeri, for allegedly violating Covid norms at a ceremony commemorating party founder Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s death anniversary, before the video went viral on various platforms.

Sayeed’s brother-in-law and former deputy speaker of the legislative assembly, Sartaj Madni, and former minister Abdul Rehman Veeri are among these leaders. On the sixth anniversary of Sayeed’s death, hundreds of fans gathered in Bijbehara township to present fatiha to him.

Mehbooba Mufti, the party’s president, was seen fighting with a police officer over why they had been barred from attending a prayer service. “These guys are brandishing firearms or throwing stones. They only want to be able to hold a fatiha. (prayer for the souls of the deceased) What makes you think that’s a problem? We also have permission,” she said to the official.

In light of Covid, Dr Singhla explained that while the party received authorization, there was a limit on the number of people who may attend. “The organisers were given a rundown of the Covid SOPs and how to acquire numbers. Despite repeated requests, they provide vast amounts of data. He said, “They were then requested to proceed for prayers as per permission given.

“Only PDP is subject to the Covid 19 limits. Not to the BJP’s demonstration in Kashmir yesterday, the PM’s rally in Punjab, or the hundreds of people who prayed for his protection during huge pujas. “Speaks volumes about the unabashed bias of the J&K government,” she tweeted.
