Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced precautionary vaccinations for vulnerable populations and those who are at higher risk of contracting COVID-19 on December 24.
In the wake of a third wave of coronavirus infections, Delhi on Monday began giving people aged 60 and up, healthcare workers, and frontline workers who received their second dose of vaccine nine months ago a third or “precautionary dose.”
From Monday, approximately three lakh people will be eligible for the third dose.
The recipients will receive a booster dose of the same vaccine they received 39 weeks ago as a precaution. They’ll have to use their existing Cowin account to reserve a time slot.

The Centre had already begun administering vaccinations to adolescents aged 15 to 17 on January 3.
So far, approximately 2.4 lakh beneficiaries in this segment in Delhi have received their first dose.
Since the inoculation campaign began on January 16, over 2.75 crore doses have been administered in the city, according to government data. Both doses were given to a total of 1.16 crore people.
