Union ministers Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh, as well as BJP president J P Nadda, met with Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on Tuesday ahead of a crucial party meeting on the presidential elections, igniting speculation that Naidu could be considered for the top constitutional post by the ruling coalition.
The party has also given Singh and Nadda permission to speak to various parties, including those in the opposition, about the presidential election.

The meeting with Naidu is significant because the BJP’s parliamentary board will meet later Tuesday to discuss the NDA’s presidential nominees.

The ruling coalition has a clear lead over the opposition in the electoral college vote to elect a new president, with over 48% of the vote.
