New Tata Cars Mileage Increased
Tata Punch petrol and Nexon diesel (AT) have the highest mileage gain of 1.13 kmpl and 2.40 kmpl, respectively
Most carmakers including Tata Motors have announced price hikes this year, which is likely to be linked to the stricter BS6 Phase 2 emission norms. Tata Motors had announced a price hike across the range earlier this year in February. It is possible that there could be another round of price hike later this year.
While Tata cars have become costlier, consumers will stand to gain from increased mileage of BS6 Phase II versions of Nexon, Altroz, Punch, Tiago and Tigor. Across petrol and diesel variants of these cars, the gain in mileage is in the range of 0.60 kmpl to 2.40 kmpl. The increased mileage will boost savings, even though CNG variants, wherever available, will continue to have the lowest running cost.
Tata BS6 Phase II cars mileage
Among petrol variants, Tata Tigor has the least gain in mileage at 0.60 kmpl. BS6 Phase II Tigor will deliver 19.60 kmpl. Altroz petrol gains 0.70 kmpl, with new mileage at 19.30 kmpl. Nexon petrol has gained 0.75 km and will now deliver 17.10 kmpl. Tiago has gained 1 kmpl, with new mileage at 20.01 kmpl. Punch is the biggest gainer at 1.13 kmpl. Punch new mileage is 20.10 kmpl, which is also the highest among all Tata petrol cars.
Along with mileage boost, Tata claims that low-end driveability has also been improved in case of petrol variants of Punch and Altroz. Tiago, Tigor, Punch and Altroz are equipped with a 1.2-litre petrol motor that generates 88 PS of max power. 5-speed manual transmission is standard across all 4 cars.
While Altroz has the option of 6-speed dual clutch automatic (DCA), the other three cars have 5-speed AMT option. Altroz also has an option of a 1.2-litre turbo petrol motor that makes 110 PS. Nexon’s 1.2-litre turbo petrol motor generates 120 PS and 170 Nm. Transmission choices include 6-speed manual and 6-speed AMT.
Among diesel variants, Altroz has gained mileage of 0.60 kmpl. Its new mileage is 23.60 kmpl. Nexon diesel MT has gained mileage of 2.10 kmpl. New mileage is 23.20 kmpl. Highest mileage gain is 2.40 kmpl for Nexon diesel AMT. New mileage is 24.10 kmpl. Tata claims that driveability has been improved with BS6 Phase II versions of Altroz diesel and Nexon diesel. Onboard Altroz, the 1.5-litre turbo diesel unit makes 90 PS and 200 Nm. In comparison, Nexon diesel makes 115 PS and 260 Nm.
Along with achieving compliance with BS6 Phase II emission norms and boosting fuel efficiency, Tata has also increased warranty period for all its cars. As compared to 2 years / 75,000 km earlier, the new warranty will cover 3 years / 1 lakh km. These improvements create a better overall package, which can help attract more customers.
Tata Motors recently achieved a significant production milestone of five million (50 lakh) passenger vehicles. The first million production milestone was achieved in 2004. The next 5 million can be faster if Tata can sustain its current popularity. Over the next decade, a significant percentage of sales will come from Tata’s new-gen electric cars. The first of these will be launched in 2024.
