The five-door Gurkha will feature captain’s seats in the second and third rows, giving it a class-exclusive six-seat configuration.
While it is already known that a five-door Gurkha is in development, new spy images have revealed additional details about the upcoming rugged SUV. The five-door Gurkha’s price announcement and market launch are expected to occur during the festive season.
- 5-door Force Gurkha will get captain seats on both second and third rows
- Will be based on a stretched version of the 3-door Gurkha platform
- Expected to carry forward the same 2.6-litre diesel engine
Gurkha Force Gurkha 5-door: a one-of-a-kind seating configuration is expected
One of the most intriguing details revealed by these new spy shots is that the Gurkha’s longer variant will receive captain’s seats in the third row. The five-door Gurkha is expected to be available in six- and seven-seat configurations. This should result in a truly unique seating configuration for the Gurkha, with bench seats in the middle row and captain’s seats in the third row for the seven-seater versions, or captain’s seats in both the second and third rows for the six-seater versions.

It remains to be seen how Force Motors will handle third-row access. Other than that, we do not anticipate any significant changes to the dashboard design or equipment list. It is expected to retain features such as a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, power windows and locks, dual airbags, and rear parking sensors. The Gurkha, on the other hand, remains quite barebones in comparison to other, more modern SUVs.
5-door Gurkha Force: a new exterior design
The five-door Gurkha will be built on the same C in C ladder-frame architecture as the regular Gurkha. And while the five-door Gurkha’s overall design will be similar to the three-door version, the new spy shots reveal that the SUV’s bodywork beyond the B-pillars has been completely redesigned.
The most visible change is the addition of two new doors, but the rear-quarter area and glass house have been completely redesigned as well. Only in profile do the differences between the three-door and five-door models become apparent. The five-door Gurkha is expected to have a wheelbase of approximately 2.8 metres, which is approximately 400 millimetres longer than the three-door version. However, the SUV’s front and rear fascias remain unchanged.
Force Gurkha 5-door: engine and off-road gear
The five-door Gurkha is expected to be powered by the same 2.6-litre diesel engine developed by Mercedes. While the three-door Gurkha produces 91hp and 250Nm of torque, it is unknown whether Force will increase those figures for the larger, heavier five-door Gurkha. The engine will be coupled to a five-speed manual transmission and power will be distributed to all four wheels via a four-wheel-drive system.
As with the regular Gurkha, the five-door is expected to feature similar off-road equipment, including a low-range transfer case, manual locking front and rear differentials, independent front suspension, and rear multi-link rigid live axle suspension. However, the suspension will almost certainly need to be tuned specifically for the new frame.
Force 5-door Gurkha: will arrive prior to Thar, Jimny, 5-door
Following a niche three-door ladder-frame off-roader, the five-door Gurkha will undoubtedly appeal to a broader audience. Similarly, Mahindra will introduce a five-door version of the Thar, and Maruti Suzuki has been developing a five-door version of the Jimny specifically for India, in order to give it a mass appeal advantage over the three-door model. Both of these SUVs are expected to debut in the next couple of years and will compete with the five-door Force Gurkha in the future.
5-door Force Gurkha: anticipated release date and price
The Force Gurkha will be the first of these ladder-frame SUVs with five doors to arrive. It is expected to debut in October or November 2022, less than a year after the three-door model went on sale in September 2021. The five-door Mahindra Thar is scheduled to launch in India between 2023 and 2024. Meanwhile, there is no confirmed date for the five-door Jimny’s launch in India.
The five-door Gurkha is expected to cost around Rs 1 lakh more than the three-door model. The regular three-door Gurkha is priced at Rs 14.10 lakh at the moment (ex-showroom, India).
