National consultation on Delhi’s new solar strategy next week

The DDC has teamed with RMI India to build a framework to expedite the adoption of renewable energy solutions in Delhi, particularly solar energy, according to a government statement released on Friday.

The Dialogue and Development Commission (DDC) of Delhi will host a national consultation on the city’s new solar policy on May 12 to assist identify hurdles and challenges to rooftop solar deployment in commercial, industrial, and residential structures. The DDC has teamed with RMI India to build a framework to expedite the adoption of renewable energy solutions in Delhi, particularly solar energy, according to a government statement released on Friday.

RMI India will assist DDC Delhi in leveraging global best practices, allowing Delhi to become the leading state in terms of Rooftop Solar (RTS) adoption, according to the statement.

“Both organizations will also organize a National Consultation on Delhi’s new Solar Policy at the India International Centre (IIC) on May 12 in partnership with the Power Department,” the statement stated.

Jasmine Shah, Vice-Chairperson of DDC Delhi, stated that the consultations are anticipated to assist the Delhi Government in identifying bottlenecks and obstacles to the deployment of solar rooftops on commercial, industrial, and residential buildings.

He added, “These consultations will provide an opportunity to brainstorm potential solutions to these difficulties and seek advice on the steps that must be taken to guarantee effective implementation.”

Shah stated that the Delhi government’s Rozgar Budget outlined an ambitious ambition to create 20 lakh employment in five years.

“The Rozgar budget places special emphasis on creating green jobs, including 40,000 new opportunities in solar renewable energy over the next five years. This partnership will go a long way toward leveraging global best practices and ensuring that Delhi becomes the national and international leader in rooftop solar adoption “He continued.

The Delhi government enacted the 2016 Delhi Solar Policy to encourage the installation of rooftop solar panels on residential and commercial structures, hence launching the widespread adoption of solar energy in Delhi.

The Delhi Solar Policy 2016 ended in 2021, and it was announced in the Rozgar Budget 2022 that the Delhi Government will introduce a new solar policy in 2022 that will establish the city as a national and worldwide leader in rooftop solar generation while simultaneously creating 40,000 green jobs.
