The war film, set in the sixteenth century, was originally set to be released on March 26, 2020, but was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. After more than a year of waiting for the film to be released in theatres, producer Antony Perumbavoor lost patience and announced that he was considering going the OTT route.

Antony’s announcement caused consternation among Kerala exhibitors, who had hoped that Marakkar Arabikadalinte Simham would rekindle interest in the theatres amid the ongoing pandemic.
