MG India recognizes that technology sells, so it has strategically focused on introducing ‘connected car’ technology. MG India introduced Car-as-a-Platform (CaaP) service with the Astor, which allows users to use streaming apps, voice, and concierge support services via the in-car infotainment system and mobile phone apps. Given the pandemic that followed shortly after, and with only premium SUVs and no hatchbacks on offer, MG India’s sales milestone is commendable. However, it’s worth noting that Kia arrived in India around the same time as MG, but thanks to the Seltos and Sonet, it quickly surpassed the 3 lakh sales mark in 2021.

“We are grateful for the love and trust that we have received after establishing a solid foundation focused on employees, dealers, suppliers, and customers,” said Rajeev Chaba, president and managing director, MG Motor India.

In the meantime, MG India has teamed up with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) to expand its electric vehicle infrastructure in India. The brand currently produces 80,000 vehicles per year and plans to increase production this year.
