According to regulatory filings, Facebook India Online Services declared a net profit of Rs 128 crore for 2020-21 on revenues of Rs 1,481 crore.
During the pandemic, Facebook’s gross ad income from the Indian market increased by 41% year over year to Rs 9,326 crore. According to records with the Registrar of Companies, the company ended up paying the government a Rs 518 crore equalisation fee on gross ad revenue. Facebook operates on a reseller model, in which it purchases merchandise from a global company and resells it to Indian customers.
These are mostly ad income made from presenting impression-based advertising on Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and third-party associated websites or mobile applications for Facebook India. Facebook India operates on an agency model, with its revenue coming from commissions on ads purchased from Facebook Ireland and resold to Indian clients.
