Maruti Wagon R is The Best Selling Vehicle of India
Indians continue to place their bets on hatchbacks and compact cars, while Americans favour large pickup trucks.
In 2021, the Maruti Suzuki WagonR was India’s best-selling passenger vehicle. While this is unsurprising given the WagonR’s long history of reliability, the number of units sold is also among the highest for any model anywhere in the world.
JATO Dynamics recently released data that showed the most popular car models in various countries around the world, according to Motor1.
The WagonR was the best-selling vehicle in India in 2021, with 183,851 units sold.

This is significantly higher than the number of units sold in most other countries of the most popular models. The popularity and sales figures show that, while SUVs are becoming more popular around the world, hatchbacks and compact vehicles continue to reign supreme in India.
In several European countries, hatchbacks and compact vehicles are becoming increasingly popular. In each of these countries, the Peugeot 208 in France, Volkswagen Golf in Germany, and Fiat Panda in Italy were the best-selling vehicles in 2021. However, the sales figures were obviously nowhere near the number of WagonR units sold in India.

In several European countries, hatchbacks and compact vehicles are becoming increasingly popular. In each of these countries, the Peugeot 208 in France, Volkswagen Golf in Germany, and Fiat Panda in Italy were the best-selling vehicles in 2021. However, the sales figures were obviously nowhere near the number of WagonR units sold in India.
The Americans, on the other hand, continue to buy pickup trucks by the truckload.
The Ford F-Series was the dominant player, with over 720,000 units sold in the United States alone in 2021. With 569,000 units sold, the Ram Pick-Up came in second, followed by the Chevrolet Silverado. According to the report, five out of every 100 light vehicles sold in the United States in 2021 will be a Ford F-Series.

There were significant changes in the United Kingdom across the Atlantic. The Ford Fiesta was dethroned by the Vauxhall Corsa as the best-selling car, with the Tesla Model 3 coming in second. Because the Model 3 is the first all-electric vehicle to reach the top of the sales charts, this is significant.
From the Covid-19 pandemic-related factors to the global semiconductor chip shortage, sales in 2021 were fraught with difficulties in almost every market around the world.
As a result, brand and model performance was a bit erratic. The WagonR’s dominance in India and the Ford F-Series’ dominance in the United States, on the other hand, shows that most buyers in at least these two countries are still betting on what they’ve been betting on for years.
