Aside from a massive stylistic revamp, the 2022 Baleno will include a significant increase in amenities and technology, and may even include an on-board SIM.
The Maruti Suzuki Baleno, which has been significantly modified, will hit the market in February. The new Baleno is the first of many Maruti Suzuki Arena and Nexa vehicles to receive an upgrade this year.
Following a mid-life update in 2019, the Baleno now gets a completely redesigned exterior and interior, while remaining mechanically unchanged from the previous model.
Exterior design of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno in 2022
The face of the 2022 Baleno has been totally redesigned, with a broader, wider grille that reaches into the headlight assembly. With an L-shaped wraparound design and new LED daytime running lamp characteristics, the headlamps are also completely new. The front bumper has also been sharpened, with a larger central air inlet and new fog lamp housings.
The new chrome border around the glass house on the 2022 Baleno now curves upwards over the rear quarter window region. Sheet metal alterations are also made to the rear doors and fender to suit the new taillights. The new Baleno has slimmer L-shaped taillights, a reprofiled rear bumper, and a redesigned tailgate at the back. In comparison to the curving shape of the previous model, the new Baleno features a wider stance and a sharper aesthetic approach.
Interior and characteristics of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno 2022
The interior of the new Baleno has been totally redesigned, much as the outside. It now features a revamped dashboard with a layered design and brushed aluminium inlays, as well as a larger 9-inch free-standing touchscreen. The AC vents have been repositioned horizontally below the infotainment screen for a cleaner look. It also features new temperature control switchgear, a Swift-style flat-bottomed steering wheel, and a redesigned instrument cluster with a revamped MID.
Maruti’s new infotainment system, which, according to insiders, will come with an on-board SIM enabling for a suite of connected car functions such as geofencing, real-time tracking, find your car, intruder detection, tow away alert, and more, will be a huge addition to the equipment list. This new system, which debuted in Europe late last year with the all-new S-Cross, will be the first for any Maruti model in India. It is planned to be available on all updated models in the future. Cruise control, automated lighting and wipers, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and other important features could be added.
While the interior of the Baleno has always been one of the most roomy and pleasant in its class, the revised model is likely to raise the bar in terms of material quality.
Engine and transmission options for the Maruti Suzuki Baleno in 2022
The Baleno facelift will be mechanically identical to the outgoing model. The present pair of 1.2-litre normally aspirated petrol engines — an 83hp basic unit and a 90hp mild-hybrid unit – will continue to power it. The 5-speed manual and CVT automatic transmission options will likewise stay intact.
Rivals and expected price for the Maruti Suzuki Baleno in 2022
The new Baleno will compete against the Hyundai i20, Tata Altroz, Honda Jazz, and Volkswagen Polo when it is released. Given the changes, the price of the Baleno, which is now priced between Rs 5.99 lakh and Rs 9.45 lakh, is expected to rise significantly (ex-showroom, Delhi).
