The Mahindra Scorpio of 2022 is likely to be very similar to its Thar sibling. The platforms and powertrains of the two models are likely to be the same.
Mahindra and Mahindra is set to launch the facelift version of one of its most popular SUVs, the Scorpio, following the launch of the flagship XUV700. The new Scorpio has been spotted testing on Indian roads recently, possibly ahead of its launch later this year.
The new Scorpio is expected to hit Indian roads in the second half of 2022, according to Mahindra.
The image, which was shared on social media, shows the new generation Scorpio on the road, carefully wrapped in camouflage. It does, however, reveal a new set of LED taillights as one of the new features expected in the SUV.
According to previous spy shots, the Scorpio will receive a slew of design changes, including LED headlamps with LED DRLs, a new grille, and a slew of technical upgrades inside the cabin, including a sunroof, leather seats, and electrically adjustable front seats, among other things.
The 2022 Mahindra Scorpio will be built on Mahindra’s new ladder-on-frame platform, which it will share with its Thar SUV sibling.
When the new Scorpio is released, it is expected to include four-wheel drive as well as other trim levels.
In terms of powertrains, Mahindra is expected to offer both petrol and diesel options for the new Scorpio. Mahindra is expected to use the same 2.0-litre turbocharged engine as the Thar SUV for petrol models. The engine is capable of producing 130 bhp and 320 Nm of peak torque, and will most likely be mated to both six-speed manual and automatic transmissions.
The tried-and-true 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine, on the other hand, is likely to be offered in the new Scorpio. The engine can produce 138 bhp and 320 Nm of peak torque when mated to a manual or automatic transmission.
Despite the introduction of the new generation Scorpio, Mahindra has previously stated that the current generation Scorpio will not be discontinued.
The new Scorpio will be positioned above the current generation model when it is released. One of its main competitors is likely to be Tata Harrier.
