IPL 2022, GT vs MI: Arjun Tendulkar, who was acquired by the Mumbai Indians for Rs 30 lakh during the mega auction, is yet to appear in an IPL match for the Mumbai Indians.
Mumbai Indians enter the final leg of their IPL 2022 campaign with nothing to lose. After being eliminated early from the play-off race, the five-time winners will try to strengthen their bench in the forthcoming games, with an eye toward the future.
The Mumbai Indians are well-known for their propensity to promote young players, and they have reaped the rewards throughout the years. Even during their dreadful run this year, the five-time champions gave debuts to a number of potential young players, including Dewald Brevis of South Africa, Tilak Varma, Hrithik Shokeen, and Kumar Kartikeya of India. Notably, they all capitalised on their opportunities and contributed to the squad throughout their season.
Indeed, Mumbai Indians broke their eight-match losing streak against Rajasthan Royals on April 30 thanks to useful contributions from Kartikeya, Shokeen, and Varma, as well as Suryakumar Yadav’s match-winning fifty.
Responding to queries during a media conference on the day of MI’s IPL 2022 match against Gujarat Titans, head coach Mahela Jayawardene discussed the prospect of Arjun Tendulkar making his IPL debut.
Arjun was acquired by Mumbai Indians for Rs 30 lakh at the IPL 2022 auction. Notably, Gujarat Titans also made a proposal of Rs 25 lakh for the talented left-arm pacer.
“Well, I believe that everyone on the squad is a possibility. We’ll see how things progress. It’s all about matchups and how we can win matches, and our first priority is to obtain the appropriate matchups.
“Each game is a confidence test; we got our first win, and now it’s a matter of stringing victories together and regaining our confidence.” It’s all about putting the best men on the field. If Arjun is one of them, we will consider it, but it will depend on the combination we release,” Mahela Jayawardene added.
Arjun was forced to withdraw from the IPL 2021 season during the tournament’s second half in the UAE owing to an injury. He did not appear in a single game during the regular season. Arjun was included in the Mumbai Indians’ squad despite the fact that the young player had not played competitive cricket since January 2021.
