A lifeguard was killed and 7 others have been injured after lightning struck a beach in New Jersey Monday afternoon, authorities stated.
Police have been known as to the twenty first Avenue Beach within the South Seaside Park part of Berkeley Township round 4:35 p.m. for a report of a lightning strike. When they arrived at the scene, police decided that eight individuals, together with 4 lifeguards, have been struck by lightning or injured from a residual strike, in response to the Berkeley Township Police Department.

On Monday evening, a handwritten notice in purple ink was left with flowers at the bottom of a lifeguard stand at the beach.
“We were at the beach today and are grateful for what you’ve done for us by keeping us safe at the beach,” the notice learn. “We are so sorry for your loss.”
Berkeley Township Mayor Carmen Amato known as the incident a “tragic and heartbreaking day for our town and the entire Jersey Shore.”

“This young person was out there every day protecting the lives of others,” Amato stated in an announcement. “Our lifeguard teams, like so many along the shore, develop special connections with our community throughout the summer, which makes this loss even greater.”
Berkeley Township ocean seashores will probably be closed for swimming Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, as beach workers and lifeguards will probably be off, police stated.
