This development suggests Mahindra is preparing for the launch of the new-generation Scorpio, which is expected to happen soon. A test mule of the new Scorpio was spotted testing ahead of its launch, which is expected in the coming weeks. Unlike previous testing prototypes, the latest unit was not heavily camouflaged on the outside.

Renderings of The Mahindra Scorpio SUV in 2022

Pratyush Rout created a digital render based on the most recent set of spy shots. It reveals what could be the new-gen Scorpio’s final design. When compared to its predecessor, the SUV’s exterior design has undergone significant changes. For starters, the front end has been completely redesigned, with a new multi-slatted grille with chrome accents and the new ‘Twin Peaks’ logo taking centre stage.

New dual-pod projector LED headlamps with integrated LED DRLs flank the grille on both sides. It gets a restyled front bumper with new C-shaped fog lamp enclosures with chrome surrounds and a large metallic bash plate to give it a tougher look. The air dam has grown in size and now has a honeycomb mesh pattern on the inside.

With the exception of black plastic claddings on door sills and wheel arches, the side profile has remained clean and understated for the most part. Roof rails, new machine-cut alloys, and a large side step for easier egress and ingress are also highlights. The new Scorpio will keep the side-hinged tailgate and vertical tail lamps, though their designs will be completely different.

Powertrain Options and Expected Features

In comparison to the current-generation Scorpio, the new-generation Scorpio in 2022 will feel a lot more modern on the inside. It gets new seat upholstery and a new dashboard layout with a dual-tone theme.

A larger touchscreen infotainment display is flanked by vertically oriented air-conditioning vents on the new dashboard. A Sony sound system with six speakers, an electric sunroof, and a digital instrument cluster are among the other highlights.

There will be two engine options for the new Scorpio: a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine and a 2.0-litre mStallion turbo petrol engine. Both of these mills are used on the new XUV700 and the second-generation Thar. A 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic gearbox will be used to transmit power from both motors. In higher-spec variants, the oil burner is expected to be available with a 4×4 drivetrain.

Is a N ew Name in The works?

Mahindra has registered a number of trademarks, including ScorpioN and Scorpio Sting, which could be used for the next-generation Scorpio. Because both iterations are likely to remain on the market alongside each other, this will help distinguish the new Scorpio from the older Scorpio.
