History and Importance of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti 2022

Mahatma Phule initiated the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti celebrations in the year 1870. Every year on the Indian Solar 30th Magh or Gregorian 19 February, Shiv Jayanti is commemorated. Shivaji Maharaj was born in Shivneri Fort on Indian Solar Magh 30, 1551/Gregorian February 19, 1630.

The greatest Maratha ruler, Shivaji Maharaj, carved an enclave from the declining Adilshahi sultanate of Bijapur, which became the beginning of the Maratha Empire. Shivaji Maharaj seized the Torna fort at the age of 16, and the Raigad and Kondana forts at the age of 17. In the year 1674, he laid the foundation for the Maratha Empire.
