Khiladi movie review: Ravi Teja’s charm isn’t enough to save this one

Ravi Teja’s energetic performance in Khiladi does his best to lift this mediocre heist drama.

Ravi Teja, who scored a superhit with Krack in 2021, began his acting career with Khiladi this year. Meenakshi Chaudhary, Dimple Hayathi, Anasuya Bharadwaj, Murali Sharma, Vennela Kishore, Sachin Khedekar, Nikitin Dheer, Mukesh Rishi, Arjun Sarja, and Rao Ramesh star in the film, which is directed by Ramesh Varma.

The screenplay is crucial to the success of any heist thriller at the box office. It must be fast-paced, racy, and full of enough twists to keep the audience engaged. In Khiladi, however, Ramesh Varma, who also directed the film and wrote the storey and screenplay, appears to be inspired by typical Telugu television serials. Telugu serials follow a simple formula: stretch the drama, add enough melodrama, and throw in a few dream sequences. He throws in a few twists as an afterthought, which you can see coming a mile away.

The film’s action, which could have been its saving grace, also disappoints.

While the storey has its moments, unnecessary songs and inane subplots detract from the overall experience. As a conman, Ravi Teja does an excellent job. With his vigour, he tries to enliven the stolid narrative, but there’s only so much he can do. Vennela Kishore, among others, dazzles with his rib-tickling routine, while Arjun Sarja passes as a cop.
