IND v SA: ODI Team Selection Postponed Due to Rohit Sharma’s Fitness

The BCCI has decided to postpone the selection committee meeting for the ODIs in South Africa until the end of the month in order to get a better understanding of new white-ball captain Rohit Sharma’s left hamstring injury.

The BCCI has decided to postpone the selection committee meeting for the ODIs in South Africa until the end of the month in order to get a better understanding of new white-ball captain Rohit Sharma’s left hamstring injury.

Rohit has been working on his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), but he may still need some time to get back to full fitness.

Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel are both said to be unavailable for selection. “A decision on Rohit will be made closer to the selection date,” a senior BCCI official said on condition of anonymity to PTI.

“After the first Test, the team selection meeting will take place. The BCCI has yet to make a final decision on whether it will be on December 30 or 31. Rohit is working hard to get in shape, but hamstring injuries are different from other types of injuries.

The absence of Jadeja and Axar has allowed R Ashwin to return to ODI cricket after a four-year absence.

The selection meeting was originally scheduled to take place shortly after the Hazare Trophy, but it was postponed to give Rohit a chance to pass the fitness test.

If Rohit does not recover in time for the ODIs, KL Rahul will lead India in a bilateral series for the first time.

“It’s possible that Rohit isn’t fit by the selection cut-off, but with the first ODI still three weeks away, he’ll have enough time to train with the team and regain full fitness closer to the match.”

“In that case, he can be chosen, but only if he is physically fit.” “These are things that Chetan Sharma, the chairman of selectors, needs to look into,” the official said.

On the basis of their performance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Venkatesh Iyer and Ruturaj Gaikwad are the two youngsters who will be included in the ODI squad.

M Shahrukh Khan’s name, who impressed everyone as a finisher during the Hazare Trophy, could be mentioned.

It will be interesting to see if he is selected for this tour or if he is kept in reserve for the T20 series against Sri Lanka and the West Indies at home.

Despite his poor form in the domestic tournament, Shikhar Dhawan, the veteran opener, may be retained.
