In Guru Randhawa’s song Dance Meri Rani, Nora Fatehi and a fan claim she was not to be copied

Nora Fatehi channelled her inner Shakira in her new dance number Dance Meri Rani, which she collaborated on with Guru Randhawa.
Nora Fatehi has established herself as one of India’s finest dancers, but her new single with Guru Randhawa is a far cry from her movie persona. A portion of the song, titled Dance Meri Rani, portrays Nora in blonde locks and a beige crochet bikini, clearly like pop sensation Shakira if one doesn’t look closely.

Nora appears in the music video as a mermaid on the beach, but as she is touched by singer Guru Randhawa, she transforms into a lady. She then proceeds to dance in the style of Shakira, recalling the latter’s Hips Don’t Lie and Whenever Wherever.

Guru Randhawa and Zahrah S Khan sang the song, which was composed by Tanishk Bagchi and included Rashmi Virag’s lyrics. The music video was directed by Bosco Leslie Martis.

“Arey hair style copy kiya Shakira ka.. to kam se kam dress to copy na karte yaar,” one user wrote. Bejjati gajab hai. (You shouldn’t have copied Shakira’s hairstyle, much alone her clothing… what an insult.)” Nora was even dubbed a “Palika Bazaar Shakira imitation” by one viewer. “Tonny Kakkar and Shakira remixed,” said one of the comments.

While many people praised Nora’s dance moves, others dismissed the song as “crap.” “You crushed it but the song is crap,” a fan remarked on Nora’s Instagram. Another person said, “Nora looks stunning as usual, but the song is a complete dud! It’s a waste of Nora’s time!”

“As an African who enjoys Indian music and movies, as most Africans do, I feel so happy of watching Nora adopting and promoting African dances or even music to India,” a fan from Africa remarked on YouTube. It brings me great joy. Keep going, Nora, I’ll always be rooting for you.” Another person remarked, “The Afro-inspired dancing is fantastic. Nora, as always, nailed it.”

According to a statement, Nora, who shot parts of the song in a mermaid suit, was trapped in her costume, which limited her mobility, and had to be carried about on a stretcher by the crew.
