Ian Somerhalder, star of The Vampire Diaries, turns 43 on December 8, and as the actor celebrates his birthday, we can’t help but reminisce about his famous character Damon Salvatore from the CW’s supernatural drama. When Somerhalder played Damon from 2009 to 2017, he had everyone glued to their screens. Despite his character’s flaws, Ian’s charm as Damon worked its magic on everyone, and he became a fan favourite from the show.
As we commemorate Ian Somerhalder’s birthday, we recall the time he revealed what his Damon Salvatore character from The Vampire Diaries would be good or bad at. Somerhalder chose between his famous characters in a game of who’d you rather as he answered questions about which of them could be useful in real-life situations.
In an interview with TV Guide, Ian stated that Damon would make an excellent “wingman.” When it comes to assisting someone as a wingman, the actor confidently stated that Salvatore “could really turn some stuff up.” On the other hand, the actor stated that if he had to seek relationship advice, he would go to his Vampire Diaries character. According to Somerhalder, “Damon is a disaster when it comes to relationships. He is egotistical.”
During the same game, Ian was praising his character Damon for being extremely stylish, stating that if he needed advice on a red carpet look, he would consult Salvatore. Salvatore’s fashion choices, according to the actor, would entail him going to the Dior store and convincing someone to make him tuxedos. After all, who can say no to Damon?
Somerhalder has spoken openly about his role on The Vampire Diaries on several occasions over the years, even referring to it as the “job of a lifetime” at one point.
