Story
Akash (Mezzan Jaffrey) is engaged. When things are going well, Vaani (Pranita Subhash) comes into the picture with her daughter and claims that Akash is her husband and that he has cheated on her. On the other hand, Tiwari (Paresh Rawal) is an old man who has a young wife (Shilpa Shetty). Tiwari thinks his wife is having an affair with Akash. This creates another tension for Akash. How will all this madness be removed from the story of Hungama 2.
more points
After a long hiatus, the veteran director, Priyadarshan is back with a confusion comedy. All the actors play lead roles in his hit movies and it’s nice to see him doing comedy from place to place. Wife played by Paresh Rawal and Shilpa Shetty has a good comedy angle but doesn’t get enough screen space.
Meezaan Jaffrey is good in her role and has a lot of potential. The surprise package of the film is Pranitha who has a central role. She is very good in her character and gets a lot of screen space. Paresh Rawal laughs a lot whenever he is on screen.
Shilpa Shetty still looks gorgeous and sizzling in some scenes. Rajpal Yadav is awesome in his cameo and is the best part of the film. Confusion comedy and some climax scenes are handled well.
Minus points
The trailer of Hungama 2 revealed that the film will be based on Shilpa Shetty and her always suspicious Paresh Rawal. But it is not because the film is completely on Pranitha and her story.
This is where the film goes for a toss for the most part as the drama and comedy that has been created around Pranitha’s track has no juice and is monotonous. The film makes sense only when Paresh Rawal’s track comes into the picture.
Priyadarshan brings back the comedy aspect but there are not many moments that are hilarious or bring back the trademark Priyadarshan comedy. The film has a slow start and the comedy looks somewhat uphill in some scenes and logic goes for a toss.
technical aspects
Venus has spent a lot of money on the film and it shows. The camerawork, location and production design are excellent. The dialogues are fun and the dialogues written for Paresh Rawal are hilarious. Talking about director Priyadarshan, his comedy works only in parts and the original magic is missing in his narration.
Decision
Overall Hungama 2 did not live up to all the expectations. There is a strong star cast but the emotions and the storyline are regular and do not create the kind of impact that one would expect. The track of Shilpa Shetty-Paresh Rawal has been used sparingly. In a way, the Priyadarshan mark of comedy only works here and there, making this film worth watching for a few laughs.
