About Honda
History
Honda arrived in India in the 1980s and partnered with Hero to produce motorcycles specifically for the Indian market. Their 2011 divorce was amicable, but Honda had already established itself as a separate entity. The Unicorn had us hooked on scooters once more, and the Japanese bikemaker had wowed us with the Unicorn.
While Activa remained the company’s bread and butter, it began to branch out into other areas. We saw the CBR250R and CBR150R, as well as the CB Hornet 160R and, most recently, the XBlade. With the exception of the XBlade, all of these bikes were phased out when stricter emissions regulations were implemented.
Portfolio of Products
Scooters – Honda currently offers the Activa 6G, Dio, Activa 125, and Grazia scooters. The theme is simple: the Activa is a more mature and traditional option, while the Dio and Grazia are more sporty and stylish. However, the performance difference between them and their Activa counterparts is negligible.
Honda now has a presence in the 110cc, 125cc, 160cc, and sub-200cc commuter space, following the success of the Unicorn 150 and CB Shine 125. The CD110 Dream is the most affordable of the bunch, while the Shine 125 and Unicorn 160 are still popular, and the Hornet 2.0 is Honda’s largest commuter naked motorcycle on the market in India.
Honda India developed a new 350cc platform to compete with Royal Enfield in 2020. The CB350 H’ness and the CB350 RS are the two motorcycles that use the same engine, but they differ slightly in ergonomics, wheel sizes, and a little bit of aesthetics.
Honda’s ADV lineup starts with the CB500X. Yes, there’s a small CB200X, but it’s hardly an ADV because it shares the Hornet 2.0 naked’s suspension, wheels, and chassis. The Africa Twin is also available, with the manual transmission option joining the DCT version in early 2020.
Big Bikes – Motorcycles like the CB650R and CBR650R are extremely popular. They’re pricey, but they come with the Honda seal of approval for trust and dependability, which big bike buyers appreciate. If you prefer a tourer, the Gold Wing is also a viable option. Honda will sell you a CBR1000RR-R, but prices will not be disclosed, and the bike will be delivered to the country on a first-come, first-served basis.

Prospects for the Future
Honda is working on a number of projects. To begin with, it has established a new engine plant in the country that is solely dedicated to midsize fun capacity motorcycles. As a result, motorcycles like the CB300R and 500cc models are likely to be produced here. Honda intends to release an electric scooter by the end of FY23, which will most likely be based on the Activa. Honda is expected to release a few more models based on the CB350 platform.
