France eases border restrictions for UK travelers who have been vaccinated

A huge relief for UK travellers who have been vaccinated! In the wake of the Omicron scare, France has announced that it will relax border restrictions for all vaccinated UK visitors. Vaccinated travellers will no longer require a valid reason to enter France as of today (14 January 2022).

However, travellers must present a negative RT-PCR test report no more than 24 hours prior to entering France, as well as be quarantined for 48 hours upon arrival while another test is conducted. The provision for self-isolation is also expected to be removed under the new measures. The rules, however, remain unchanged for those who have not yet been vaccinated.

The office of French Prime Minister Jean Castex issued a statement claiming that because the COVID-19’s Omicron variant is now widely distributed in both countries, travel restrictions are no longer necessary. The tourism industry in France is in desperate need of a boost. The pandemic has had a negative impact on the country’s economy, making it one of the pandemic’s worst victims.

According to the World Travel & Tourism Council, France is the most popular tourist destination in the United Kingdom. According to reports, UK residents account for 14% of visits to France, and international tourists spend 60 billion euros ($68.8 billion) per year in the country prior to the pandemic.

The news comes as a huge relief to UK citizens planning vacations in France in the coming weeks. The decision has been well received by European airlines and train companies.

Due to the Omicron scare, France apparently put a ban on tourists with strict COVID-19 restrictions on December 18, 2021.
