Fire in Tata Nexon EV: First car fire after Electric scooter, government orders probe

After the electric scooter, the first instance of a fire in a vehicle of this segment has emerged. The incident occurred late Wednesday evening in Mumbai’s Vasai West neighborhood. Tata’s Nexon EV was completely destroyed by a fire that broke out here. In India, this is the first instance of a Tata electric car catching fire. A senior official of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said Thursday that the government has ordered an independent investigation into the fire in a Nexon electric vehicle in Mumbai. The Center for Fire, Explosive, and Environment Safety (CFEES), Indian Institute of Science (IISc), and Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL), Visakhapatnam have been tasked with determining the incident’s cause and recommending preventative measures.
