Facelift of The BMW 3 Series Leaked Prior to Its Global Debut

The updated 3 Series features minor design changes and is expected to debut in the coming months.

The facelifted BMW 3 Series (G20) has been leaked online, revealing some design changes to BMW’s popular sedan. The current-generation 3 Series made its global debut in 2018, and the facelifted version shown here is expected to hit international markets later this year. The model in these leaked images is the long-wheelbase variant of the BMW 3 Series sedan, which is sold in China and India under the name BMW 3 Series Grand Limousine.

What Changes have been made to The BMW 3 Series?

The refreshed 3 Series Grand Limousine receives subtle design updates, as with most mid-cycle facelifts. Keep in mind that this is the car that will be sold in China, so the one that will be sold in India may differ in appearance. The front-end has been updated, with new headlamps, reworked bumpers, and a larger air intake, according to leaked images. However, unlike other new BMW models with larger grilles, the kidney grille remains small. Depending on the trim, the grille pattern changes. From the side, the car looks almost identical, but BMW may introduce new alloy wheel designs and paint color options. The facelifted 3 Series gets a redesigned rear bumper, as well as visible exhausts on some variants.

Despite the lack of interior images for the facelifted sedan, it is unlikely that the carmaker will make any significant changes. A larger, more advanced infotainment system, a revised instrument cluster, and more interior color and trim options may be the only changes to the 3 Series’ cabin.

Powertrain Options for The BMW 3 Series Facelift

BMW is likely to keep the existing powertrain options for the refreshed model, as this is only a facelift and not a generation change. The 3 Series is available in petrol, diesel, and petrol-hybrid powertrains around the world. The i3 is a new electric sedan based on the facelifted BMW 3 Series that will be sold exclusively in China at first.

The Launch of The BMW 3 Series in India and Its Competitors

The facelifted 3 Series is expected to hit the market internationally later this year, with India possibly following suit. In India, BMW sells the 3 Series in both standard and long-wheelbase (Gran Limousine) versions, and the facelifted model is expected to follow suit. The facelifted 3 Series will compete with the Audi A4, Volvo S60, Jaguar XE, and the all-new Mercedes-Benz C-Class, which was recently launched in India, after its launch.
