External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met his Indonesian counterpart Retno Marsudi on Monday and mentioned COVID cooperation and exchanged views on the scenario in Myanmar.

Mr Jaishankar, who arrived in Italy from Greece on the second leg of this two-nation tour, met Marsudi on the sidelines of the G20 ministerial conferences.

“Always nice to meet my good friend @Menlu_RI of Indonesia. Discussed COVID cooperation and exchanged views on the situation in Myanmar,” Mr Jaishankar tweeted.

The assembly comes days after India and Indonesia held sixth spherical of Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) on June 25 throughout which either side reviewed all the gamut of bilateral relationship, underneath the framework of Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Cooperation in various areas – together with political, defence, safety and strategic, financial and cultural, had been additionally mentioned in the course of the consultations.

Indonesia can be a member of the G20 – an influential bloc that brings collectively the world”s main economies.

The G20 summit is scheduled to be held in Italy in October. India is predicted to carry the presidency of the G20 in 2022.

The G20 member nations are Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Japan, India, Indonesia, Italy, Mexico, Russia, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Turkey, the United Kingdom, the United States and the European Union.
