Ayan Mukerji’s upcoming magnum opus features not only a stellar star-studded cast, but also a reputable team of visual effects artists who have won multiple Oscars.
Brahmastra, the long-awaited magnum opus of director Ayan Mukerji, will be released in September of this year. The director has often talked about the fantasy adventure epic, which he has reportedly been working on for over ten years and is billed as a trilogy.
The filmmaker needed a first-rate team capable of translating Mukerji’s vision seamlessly onto the screen in order to provide a supreme cinematic experience with a never-seen-before state-of-the-art fantasy world on the big screen.
With a stellar cast behind him, including Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Nagarjuna, Amitabh Bachchan, and others, the 38-year-old director needed skilled craftsmen to bring the fantasy world to life.
The visual effects, animation, and stereo conversion company DNEG is handling the VFX for the upcoming film, allowing him to realise his vision. Furthermore, the studio recently celebrated a major victory: Denis Villeneuve’s Dune, which won an Oscar for Best Visual Effects this year, is now set to star in a Bollywood film.
DNEG is in charge of the visual effects in ‘Brahmastra.’
The visual effects for the upcoming Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt film Brahmastra are being handled by the same team that worked on the Oscar-winning film Dune. This would not be their first Indian project; ReDefine VFX was also in charge of the visual effects in SS Rajamouli’s latest film RRR, which was praised for its grandiose visual effects.
Namit Malhotra is the founder and non-executive director of Prime Focus Limited, the world’s largest independent integrated media services company, as well as the CEO of DNEG.
Aside from their most recent Oscar win for Dune, the DNEG team has six other Academy Awards to their credit. The company’s achievements include Oscar-winning films such as Inception, Interstellar, Ex Machina, Blade Runner 2049, First Man, and Tenet.
Namit Malhotra talked about his team’s work on Brahmastra in an interview with Firstpost, and described his vision as “creating a benchmark for filmmakers across platforms.”
He also stated that their goal is to “transform our audience’s expectations in terms of visual storytelling.”
Meanwhile, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna, and others will star in Ayan Mukerji’s Brahmastra, which will be released on September 9, 2022.
