Covid Vax is Probably safe for Hypothyroidism Patients

According to experts, both inactivated and mRNA Covid-19 vaccinations appear to be safe for hypothyroidism patients.

The study, which will be presented at ENDO 2022, discovered that these immunizations do not induce substantial changes in thyroid function and are not linked to an increased risk of unplanned hospitalizations or emergency department visits.

“No previous studies have looked into any possible relationship between COVID-19 vaccines and unstable thyroid function control among patients getting thyroid hormone replacement for hypothyroidism,” said University of Hong Kong lead researcher David.

“Our encouraging findings should encourage hypothyroidism patients to get vaccinated against Covid-19 to prevent themselves against potentially worse Covid-19-related consequences,” Lui concluded.

The researchers compared two vaccines: CoronaVac, an inactivated vaccine, and Pfizer BioNTech (BNT162b2), an mRNA vaccine. CoronaVac makes use of a dead SARS-CoV-2 virus. In several nations, it is utilized in immunization efforts.

mRNA vaccines instruct the body’s cells on how to produce a protein that triggers an immune response. The vaccinations from Pfizer and Moderna are mRNA vaccines.

The researchers looked at data from over 47,000 people who had received the Covid-19 vaccination and were receiving levothyroxine for hypothyroidism.

Unvaccinated patients, those who received the CoronaVac vaccine, and those who received the mRNA vaccine were separated into three groups.

Patients who received either type of Covid-19 vaccination had no greater chance of requiring their levothyroxine dosage cut or increased, according to the researchers. (IANS)
