Coal India Announces its first Tender for Coal Imports

The power ministry instructed the state-run miner, which has minimal experience importing coal, to submit orders for cargoes from overseas last month.

Coal India, the world’s largest coal miner, said in a statement that it had published a tender to import 2.42 million tonnes of coal by the end of September to enhance fuel availability amid fears of a shortage.

According to the tender document, the corporation is looking for deliveries at power plants.

On Saturday, the business will release a new tender for delivery in the July 2022-June 2023 period.

The states had requested 2.4 million tonnes in total, with other states, such as Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, offering to import coal on their own.
