BJP MP Gautam Gambhir Condemns Threats Against Nupur Sharma, Attacks ‘secular liberals’

Two more BJP leaders show support online.

BJP East Delhi MP Gautam Gambhir supported Nupur Sharma, who was suspended for comments against the Prophet and the Muslim community, and condemned threats against her.

Gambhir tweeted, “Secular liberals’ silence on hatred and death threats against a woman who apologised is deafening.”

He then said, “Nobody supports Nupur Sharma’s remarks.” The party has disciplined her and she has apologised.”

“The open display of hostility, death threats against her and her family, and synchronised rioting in different regions of the country are grounds for alarm,” he said. The silence of secular liberals who condemn our party for intolerance is even more surprising.

BJP suspended Sharma over her comments in a TV debate. The BJP’s Delhi unit dismissed Jindal over his tweets.

Former Safdarjung councillor Radhika Abrol posted a video on Facebook supporting Sharma, saying, “Nupur Sharma, a Hindu woman who didn’t say anything improper… Her modified speech was posted on Twitter to mock Muslims.

Abrol removed the video because Facebook said it violates their community standards. “I support Nupur personally.” I have my own opinions despite being affiliated with an organisation. Our party encourages open-mindedness.

Former TV panellist and BJP politician Rahul Trivedi also voiced his support, tweeting, “No one above the party’s principles, however some organisations and their people will never succeed in their objective.” Every patriot supports (our) sister.”
