Bharat Biotech warns that only Covaxin should be given to people aged 15 to 18

The announcement comes after the company received reports of other vaccines being given to the newly eligible group that have not been approved for children.

Concerned about unapproved vaccines being given to children, Bharat Biotech issued a statement on Friday urging healthcare workers to be “vigilant” and ensure that only Covaxin is given to children aged 15 to 18.

The announcement comes after the company received reports of other vaccines being given to the newly eligible group that have not been approved for children.

“We have received several reports of other Covid-19 vaccines being administered to individuals in the 15-18 year age group,” the Hyderabad-based vaccine maker said in a late-night Twitter statement.

“We respectfully request that healthcare workers exercise extreme caution and ensure that only Covaxin is administered to people aged 15 to 18,” it continued.

Bharat Biotech had issued a clarification earlier in the day, stating that no painkillers are recommended for children receiving the Covaxin vaccine.

“We’ve received word that certain immunisation clinics are advising children to take three 500 mg paracetamol tablets in addition to Covaxin. “After being vaccinated with Covaxin, no paracetamol or pain relievers are recommended,” the company said in a statement.
