Arshdeep’s yorker Highlights Hardik and Chahal Miss India’s first net session before SA series

Hardik Pandya, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Harshal Patel skipped India’s optional practise session in New Delhi before the five-match T20I series against South Africa. BCCI sources say Hardik, Chahal, and Harshal will workout Tuesday. Gujarat Titans skipper and Rajasthan Royals leg-spinner played in IPL 2022 final on May 29.

Umran Malik’s IPL heroics earned him his first India call-up. The right-arm bowler from Jammu, who frequently hits 150 kmph, started with a few half-run-up deliveries and then went full throttle against Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, and Deepak Hooda.

Avesh Khan and Arshdeep Singh were India’s best seamers. Avesh bowled near-perfect yorkers to Ishan Kishan, Pant, and Shreyas, while Arshdeep mimicked one under bowling coach Paras Mhambrey.

Mhambrey positioned a baseball mitt and bottle 6 inches from the stumps for Arshdeep to aim. The youthful left-arm seamer took 10 attempts and landed three in the desired places, impressing the coach.

Dinesh Karthik’s batting stood out during India’s three-hour training session. The seasoned stumper tried lap and ramp shots in a 10-minute practise before the throwdown specialists, who varied their lengths and speed.

Most impressive batters were KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant. Rahul faced spinners Ravi Bishnoi, Kuldeep Yadav, and Axar Patel. His sweeps and lofted shots looked good. Pant played well against Umran Malik and Avesh Khan.

On June 9, this venue will host the inaugural T20I.
